It’s no secret that in modern visual novels the absolute norm is to “refinish” the game after purchasing it on Steam or other stores. At least, I quite found myself in such a period.

But who ever decided that in a cute, wonderful game about a girl in a wheelchair who dreams of becoming an airplane pilot, it would be absolutely appropriate to suck the player out of a pleasant, romantic atmosphere and abruptly introduce hard (and sometimes not so hard) sex for 2 minutes… and then just as quickly return everything to normal, as if nothing had happened?

In Diana-senpai’s attempts to notice me, greetings ladies and gentlemen. My name is still Alex, I still adore octopuses and gorge myself on maple cheese

Disclaimer: all images are NOT taken from hentai, all scenes are NOT erotic!

I answer with my head

Here are a couple of pictures to get you in the mood. Everything is fine here, she just made cookies with a "secret" ingredient.

In this scene, the main character simply rubbed his back. In the sense of "than", what’s the difference??!

Firstly, the girl is not small, and secondly, he does not kiss but shares oxygen with her in space!

Let’s make it at least a little bit like the fact that we are doing research here out of pure scientific curiosity, first let’s determine who was the person who came up with the idea like “Let’s add pictures to the book and so that you can choose answer options once every half hour.”?»

To do this, you need to remember the game The Portopia Serial Murder Case – an adventure puzzle whose main task was to solve a murder case.

Disc with the American version of the game. Nobody thought about hentai back then. It was a great time.

But not as wonderful as the atmosphere of a busy city.

The crowded city in which a (haha) brutal murder took place.

Back in 1983, it was an attempt to introduce the genre of now classic American adventures to the Japanese audience, which Portopia, along with several colleagues, did an excellent job with.

At that time, the formation of the video game market was just beginning, and quests were able to popularize this hobby very well among the masses. And the transition from an exclusively text-based narrative format to a visual one showed good results: people became much more interested in reading a bunch of paragraphs on the screen, because now something was really happening there.

A little earlier, in 1982, a completely unrelated striptease poker game, Lolita: Yakyūken, was released on the PC-8800 in Japan.

The principle was quite simple: a https://spin-casino.uk/games/ beautiful girl (presumably named Lolita) sits opposite her and, every time you win the Japanese equivalent of the game “rock, paper, scissors,” she takes off an item of clothing. Quite a lot of such games were produced at that time (and no less now).

What’s also remarkable about Lolita is that it is the first officially recognized visual novel. At least that’s what the Visual Novel DataBase portal, which is one of the main registries of visual novels, claims.

Well, maybe she’s just hot, who knows??

Now this is suspicious.

Okay, that’s it, TURN OUT COME ON

Slowly the picture begins to take shape. We have a genre of quests and erotic games with anime girls, the only thing missing is someone who would combine it all together and create an exciting adventure with a horny girl in the middle. Who could it be.

Yes, you guessed right – it turned out to be Hideo Kojima!

Inspired by The Portopia Serial Murder Case, in 1988, a young Konami studio employee proposed the idea for the Snatcher project – a cyberpunk graphic adventure about police officers in a city of the future.

The plot is quite simple: Recently, reports began to appear about rebellious robots (they are called Snatchers here), who decided that it was a good idea to exterminate all people, remove their skin and put them on themselves. The main character, in turn, is looking for a way to prevent this.

Despite high marks from critics, the game turned out to be a commercial failure, as a result of which the ideas about a futuristic cinematic post-apocalypse with elements of fiction had to be put aside and switched to something simpler. For example, like a series like Metal Gear.

Game cover for Japan.

I hope there will be no obscenities here?

Meanwhile, in 1995, the wave of lust was gaining momentum, and therefore the game Eve: Burst Error was released from under the wing of the studio C’s Ware. Initially, it positioned itself as an eroge, but after a while everyone realized that the concept of a visual novel was somehow more suitable.

The plot follows two parallel investigations with two separate main characters. Kojiro is a private investigator tasked with finding a piece of art, while intelligence agent Marina must protect the daughter of a Japanese embassy employee. These two stories initially seem completely different, but gradually merge into a dark and mysterious thriller.

What is also noteworthy about the game is that at any moment in the game the narratives occur simultaneously, and you can switch between characters at least every minute, creating a unique gaming experience.

And of course, a lot of hot scenes also thoroughly stimulated dopamine receptors 🙂

One letter on the cover is clearly superfluous.

You guys have very big, juicy dialogues here.

During development, everyone was inspired by Hollywood cinema. What was popular then?? That’s right, Basic Instinct 🙂

Otherwise I’ll fall asleep with you!

For some time, visual novels were closely intertwined with the erotica genre, satisfying exclusively the needs of those who like to sharpen their pencil. The plot component was certainly important, but not so important that it was completely lost in it, leaving the erotic scenes as a small episode among the mountain of other events.

And then 2001 came and Ace Attorney came out.

And everyone rushed in all directions!

Thanks to this game, the world has pushed the boundaries of consciousness and pushed new possibilities into the genre.

Someone went down the path of gameplay and deepened the interactivity

Someone set out to conquer new horizons and offer an alternative experience

And someone. created a dating simulator with pigeons. aimed at a female audience. pi#&$%

To summarize, I would like to note: visual novels are a very niche genre.

And all the more interesting, in my opinion, is the fact that with all mankind’s love for reading, this genre has not yet completely taken over the planet. After all, if you think about it, in games of this genre, graphics and storytelling are perfectly combined, providing the author’s vision, but at the same time leaving room for the reader’s imagination. We were literally given the characters and their scene, but how they perform certain actions falls on the shoulders of the imagination of the person on the other side of the screen.

Although most likely this is the reason, simply due to my own attitude, I can rephrase this: the game does not provide either a full-fledged reading experience or a full-fledged author’s direction, being at the junction and not satisfying either of both needs.

In any case, I believe that extra creativity is never superfluous, and any endeavors can lead to something good. And considering that thanks to the human thirst for sex, such great things as electronic payments, streaming services and Fastum Gel ® have appeared in the world, it is quite possible that in the field of visual novels one day there will be an invention of something that will change our lives beyond recognition.

In the meantime, you can be content with an unusual setting, charismatic characters and fascinating stories. Well, those two minutes are also possible, the main thing is that no one enters the room, otherwise that’s the law of meanness..
